Hello! Are you a beginner? I want to present everything you need to know to raise baby Angelfish. I've developed and illustrated a spawning fixture, a brine shrimp hatchery, and an egg counting grid that could also interest experienced breeders. Selected Web links describe different breeding techniques, along with general and in-depth information useful to Angelfish fanciers and breeders.

I was a small-time breeder, supplying a few local pet shops and occasionally shipping special breeder-quality fish by truck and air. But alas, I've stopped; several reasons:

  1. My fry were not surviving past 3 days. I think that one of my three suppliers may have passed some bad bug on to me.
  2. An attack of arthritis was making water changing difficult.
  3. I like to go visiting my kids and grandkids in New Orleans, Detroit, San Francisco, and Australia. There's no one here to feed fry 3-5 times a day.
  4. It was a mistake for me to try to raise Koi, Black, and German Blues; they are either too aggressive, or not hardy enough, or both. When / if I start again, I'll go back to Silver and Gold. I'll sterilize my fish room and equipment, and buy from only one established breeder.

If you need help for your Angels, or if you're ready for big-time breeding, you can get a lot of diverse information from the breeders who post on Aqua World's Angelfish Forum.

Why this FAQ?

I think Angelfish are beautiful, good company, and fun to breed. I'd like more people to keep and breed them, Click to see LARGE German Blue Blusher!for their enjoyment and to share in the improvement of the species. I also like to design attractive and useful Web pages. See a colorpro.com services commercial here: colorpro.com/designs/.

I once had 200 gallons in 9 tanks, and sold  juvenile Silver and Gold Angels locally, and have some selected adults, breeding size and pairs. My Kois, Blacks and German Blue Blushers didn't do well. I am no longer offering any Angels for sale. Maybe again some day.

Organization of the ABFAQ

This a fully updated version of our old site. We have started the ABFAQ over again from scratch to make it even better! This version includes metric measurements and much new information. The individual pages with guest comments allows guests to instantly expand on my answers. The complete FAQ for printing permits you to print the whole FAQ without the comments for off-line study.

Your question wasn't answered?

Use this guest book to share your experiences, to help me improve and maintain this site. I'd especially like an email from you if my instructions are wrong, confusing, or incomplete. Please AT LEAST read the questions and answers on the page Index to the ABFAQ and try not to ask questions that are already answered. OR BETTER, use our new discussion list!

Join the ABFAQ UPDATES List

Alas, Microsoft has killed the ListBot service, in hopes of promoting a more costly (and less functional, in many ways) mailing list manager. ABFAQ updates is now defunct. Sorry. Sometimes Microsoft's formula for success seems to be, buy other people's good software and kill it.

RAISING ANGELS Discussion List

Now, I have started a new mailing list, service from Topica.com. It is set up as a discussion list; subscribers may send emails to the entire group. Members may elect to receive every email or digests of 10 emails... or NO email, just browsing from the Web.

Raising Angels

To get things started, I have invited 637 subscribers from the defunct ABFAQ Updates announcement list to join. Hope to see some success stories from them!
